lost

After preparing yesterday's meme, I cruised through the old photos.  It's hard to resist the lure of memories in technicolor.

If you've known me a while, this was my original avatar.  I love this photo.  Gigi was such a serious baby 67% of the time.  The other thirty-three were spent making me swoon or go insane in the membrane.

There is a distinct memory of being impatient for the appearance of more hair but trying not to let it get to me because it seemed too superficial.  Which it was because all I wanted to do was force her into cute little hairstyles before she started to tell me to back off.  For the record, she started to tell me to back off the moment she started to talk.

Anyhow, now it's screw superficial - it's all about being practical.  These days, I wish she had short hair because taming her locks is damn near f'ing impossible with the hand twirled dreadlocks that form on a daily basis.  And don't even get me started on her bangs which are in her eyes all the time - oh wait - so are mine, so maybe I'd better let that one slide.

So the knot-filled hair means basically I'm paying for that one superficial wish.   Karma can be a bitch.  Cripes, I wonder what would happen if I wished for lots of money?  I'd probably get robbed by a bunch of freak clowns right after receiving the cash.

Oh sorry, I bet you thought I was going to talk about Lost (finally, they announced when it's back) but no, I was just talking about how I got lost in the photos last night.  Boring I know, but you cannot tell me you don't do it too.  Seriously, doesn't everyone fall head first into their photo folders?

Oh I completely LOVE looking at old photos. LOVE IT. Too bad the rest of my family doesn't like it as much.

The reason my linen closet looks like a white sale explosion is because that is where I store the actual photos of my actual kids, and when I wander off, telling my husband I'm going to clean out the linen closet, he finds me 7 hours later, going through all the photos amidst a pile of hand towels, some of which I've used to wipe my tears when I cry over how fast the kids have grown.

Also, notice I said it would be 7 hours before my husband found me. Heaven forbid he come up sooner and actually help me get that damn closet cleaned.

This morning, I actually asked R if she'd lie to get her hair cut like Cass's.

He has a brushcut.

Yes, the tangles are KILLING me too.

But oh! The pictures of the days before I had to dump half a bottle of conditioner on her head and stillhear her fuss!

Thanks for the meme invite - I'm up!

I am the only one in this house that looks through all my pic folders...

Why do you think I cut Sam's hair short...no more tangles...easy peasy as Samantha likes to say!

Oh, I love it!

I get my kid's hair thinned when she gets it cut. It seems like a travesty (who doesn't want thick hair?!) but it so works on the tangles.

Photo trolling is one of my favourites. Just a note of caution. Showing Little Stuff a photo of her mother in Halloween Monarch butterfly wings caused a demand that Grama make a second pair.
Maybe photo albums are better enjoyed alone.

Yes, I do the same thing. In fact, I was looking at my photos to complete the meme (I'm on it--really!), and got all caught up in the squishy, chubby baby pictures. I had to stop, because it made me kind of sad--it wasn't that long ago, but I already barely remember those days.

Yup I got buried in the photo albums last week. We have about half a dozen from the early baby days and then nothing - which matches the arrival of the digital camera!

Nevermind, in another decade we can all sit and knit whilst we remember the old days with a glue stick and a whole stack of spanking new empty albums to fill.
Cheers

I totally remember that picture. When I saw it I was like, "oooh! That's her old avitar!"

It's generally a bad idea for me to go into my photo album cabinet, because I don't come out for a looooong time.

My daughter Dylan was a super super serious baby too. People would always ask me, "Why doesn't your baby smile?" What on earth is the answer to that?

I had super-tangly hair when I was little and my mom used to put conditioner in it that we thought smelled like bubble gum. Made it fun and no more tangles. Not that that has anything to do with old photos...

Old photos. I wonder how many years of my life I've spent gazing into the past.
