So I think I muttered something about possible resolutions for this new year thing in my last post, ones that won't instantly turn to dust. Speaking of dust, I just watched The Golden Compass (not Gilden) and if you've seen the movie or read the book, you get the dust reference. If you haven't seen it, it was meh so I guess it really was Gilden.
Yes so it's New Year's Day, and so far my list of resolutions includes:
- floss daily
I can't help it, with this distraction and all. We got iTunes gift certificates and I'm rebuilding my 90s and early millennia with missing singles and CDs. The ones that were borrowed and never returned, lifted when throwing house parties, lost with the relationships - the ones thrown from car windows along with a lot of tears and swear words - and smokes. These are the ones that over the years have been unexpectedly heard again on the airwaves, usually prefaced with the word retro, and always made me say "I've got to get that one again" prior to drifting into a mind-blowing memory, rife with potential for tangents. Those are the best kind of trips down memory lane - the ones with soundtracks. Today it was The Charlatans and I'll leave it at that.
Anyhow, this brings me to a small request. On my list of things to do before oh-eight ended was a template cleanse which is nothing like a body detox but I'll use the silly analogy anyway. So when I slimmed down the sidebars and shoved them into a new pair of skinny jeans with lots of muffin top flowing in all unharnessed directions - a muffin top that I'm hiding with a cleverly draped t-shirt - I lost some stuff. One of those things was my blogroll.
So I have decided on another resolution for 2009, one too accompany the massaging of mah bloody gums, and one with potential for success: I will build a new blogroll and this post will serve as an open roll call. If I've never seen you before, I may debate the linkage but I'm nice so don't be scared of that disclaimer.
So basically: leave me your linkage, and I will more than likely provide some technorati love for 2009. But no commercial ventures please - just personal blogs. Discretion is up to me baby.
from the Hunter S. Thompson Motivational Poster collection
And I've decided to live my life according to Hunter S. Thompson: so free drugs to everyone who learns to really relax. Not sure who's supplying the drugs, and those drugs might be Motrin or Beano, but it's free drugs that are free but not drug-free, so stop complaining would ya'.Oh and I found some floss last night so when it comes to keeping my resolution, I'm right on target. YEE HAW.

I actually loved the 90s. Not a lot of peeps are with me on that one, but I'm optimistic that grunge will make a real comeback (not that quasi-grunge thing that the designers are trying to call "grunge," either).
And I need to floss more, too. Maybe I'll add that to my list. If my retired-dentist-stepdad learns that I don't do it, he's gonna need more cardiac surgery, and I'm not sure he can take that.
Early 90's was some pretty awesome music, and my husband has the flannel to prove it.
Flossing sounds good, I think I may actually succeed if I do something like floss.
Flossing is way too ambitious for me. And nothing at all wrong with the Charlatans. I am picky about my 90's music but done right, it's some of the best stuff.
I think Dora flosses too as best I can recall from her missive about going to the dentist.
Love the new template - clean and easy to read.
Crap, I should update my blogroll too. Been meaning to do that since 2006.
Also, flossing? Makes me tired just thinking about it.
Flossing is pretty ambitious. Best to work up to it slowly: maybe 2009 is "Buy floss," 2010 is "Use floss," and then - finally - 2011 is "Floss daily." By 2012, your dental hygiene could be fantastic.
Basically: think of flossing as an Olympic event, and pace yourself appropriately.
I have EIGHT rolls of floss in my dental hygiene drawer (what? Don't we all have one?), and yet I gave flossing the giant finger on New Year's Eve. Of course, when I'm in the hospital because the plaque build up has caused me to have heart problems, I will weep for my sheer laziness.
Then I'll probably bitch because there's nothing good on hospital television.
Might you roll with me, luv?
P.S. I took some Wellbutrin yesterday. You know, for grins and crap. Guess what? I cried most of January 1, 2009! So much for that whole 'anti' part of 'antidepressants'!
P.S.S. Crap! I think I just came up with a blog topic right there. Act like you've never heard that if I flesh that bad boy out, mkay?
P.S.S.S. My word verification is "outsuri" - and that is exactly what I want to yell to Tom and Katie's offspring everytime I see a photo of her two and a half year old bad self walking around sucking on a Playtex Nurser and clothes more expensive than I'll ever have.
i still think flossing is maybe the hardest resolution ever. seriously, i already fell off the wagon and it's only day 2. :-/ i'd love to be on your roll... you're on mine :-)
I've been reading here for about a year and occasionally leave boring and un-funny comments :)
Anyway, yay for flossing!
If I weren't so damn lazy, I'd just upload my CD collection (in bins from two moves ago) into the computer. It's on my list of "to do". Along with a bunch of other things. Including floss. And maybe flirt with mouthwash. Oh yeah, 2009 is gonna be dangerous!
Can you roll with me? ;)
If I could send you my Depeche Mode, The Cure & INXS, I would.
Do the Psychedelic Furs get included in the 90's music, or are they too 80's???
Flossing is too hard for me. I never remember and there is something about it that just grosses me out.
I know, I'm weird.
Anyhoo - Happy New Year!
I miss the music of the 90's. You've given me an idea on what to do with all the iTunes gift cards I got for Christmas, though. 80's and 90's shuffle, here I come!
And I'll be heartbroken if I'm not included in your new blogroll. With full out sniffles and sobbing and red, puffy eyes. Don't go breakin' my heart.
@hoppytoddle: I saw DM two years ago. Still a great show.
Flossing supposedly prevents heart disease. Who knew?
You're definitely on my blog roll ;)
Flossing is a good one but one I know I'll never keep. I'm going to shoot for a couple of times a week (much like going to the gym) and hope that helps.
Oh, and last night you inspired me to do a playlist of all the old songs I used to love in university... (it's at the bottom of my blog if you want to check it out). It was really nice to revisit that music. I forgot how much I love the Charlatans, the Stone Roses, old Radiohead (saw them in concert for my 20th birthday) and so many more...
Thank you!
Floss is my kryptonite. Damn. I am going with— less cuticle biting. That's gross, huh? Sorry.
Happy improved dental hygiene year.
I'm pretty sure if I resolved to floss more I would end up doing it less often - just because my brain rebels at resolutions.
Lost blogrolls are so sad. I've lost mine twice and oh what a pita. The last time I recreated it I made it a separate page instead of in my sidebar, so I'm ~hopefully~ less likely to lose it again!
wait, I'm supposed to floss? EVERY DAMN DAY? Jesus. I am TOO damn busy........
Shoot! I knew I forgot to do something last year. Someday I'll floss. Maybe.
I need to update my blog roll again. Why is that so hard for me to maintain? I could use some Technorati love with my new domain. Didn't think about that part when I bought it. My rank is still in the toilet. :(
i hope it wasn't the mint floss - whats with that stuff? Why must flossing taste faux minty?
I floss everyday that I don't have a cold - days with a cold I give myself a pass.
Happy Flossing.
Until this very moment, I had no idea that I was a flossing champion. I found my calling!
Happy New Year!
Awesome work with the floss.
I just ran out last night so I'm already screwed.
I like the new template - I'm a big believer in less is more.
Oh, the flossing! I always *mean* to floss regularly, and I'm generally successful for about 3 minutes.
I dragged the floss out last night because I was supposed to go to the dentist tomorrow (yeah, I'm a real planner *wink*). Did I floss?
No.
However, due to the cold that ate my head, my appointment has been rescheduled until the 31st, so I actually have the opportunity to prevent the ripping of my gums out of my mouth by that god awful hook-thing.
It's January 2nd and I haven't even thought about resolutions. *shakes head*
You are more than welcome to link to me.
Flossing is an excellent resolution. After taking microbiology, I know more about what goes on in my mouth than I EVER wanted to. The things bacteria do in there...*shiver*
I did this once and my blog exploded.
And then people bitched that I didn't get the blogroll up fast enough.
And then they bitched that I forgot a couple of people.
And they are still bitchin.
Cause I don't have a blogroll anymore, I have a Stalking my Stalkers list and it is hopelessly out of date.
Good luck babe, you brave brave woman...
I found you from Y and her naming you as one of her favorite Canadian blogs.....I'm so exited...I love fresh blood..I mean blogs
I just found you, but I've already subscribed to your feed ... does that count? And ... one of my resolutions is to get better about commenting because I'm a lazy ass. Anyway, it's very nice to meet you motherbumper. I live in Orange County, CA and I make fun of all the people that live around me in "Money Town". I would love to be on your new blogroll, but since I'm a new reader I completely understand if I'm not.
PS Flossing is a good thing
PPS My blogroll is so out of date and you've made me feel guilty.
I completely don't floss. Sometimes I only brush once. Ughhhhhh. I feel like I'm lucky if I shower some days.
I'm all about some link love. And will share it!
If I don't have what you need on CD, I bet I'd have it on cassette or vinyl. (I think I might have a Charlatans picturedisk, in fact.)
and I know you won't forget me, baby.
Ugh. I'm really bad at the flossing thing.
And my blogroll is SO out of date... I really need to update it soon.
Happy New Year... make sure you drop by later in the week; I'm going to do a give away.
Link me up baby! heheh...
Floss...um yes once a year.
Blogroll, huh? I should put mine back up sometime.
Anyone who lives her life according to HST is okay in my book. I went to journalism school because of him.
Will you add me to your blogroll? PRETTY PLEASE?
I don't know why it's so hard to floss every night. Maybe if I add it to my morning routine when I'm actually awake? Good luck on this one, I tend to only do good with this for around 30 days before my next appt with the Dentist Hygenist who yells at me every time.
shit. i totally forgot to add flossing to my list. grrr.
Oh, and will you put my new place on the roll? It's gettin' kinda lonely over there...
Do we need to ask to be added if we were on previous incarnations?
Also, have you considered the blogger toolkit blogroll? Look at it: you can sort by recent updates, control how many are shown before a jump, and can be built from Reader.
hope i'm not to late to the love feast. i'm always up for some motherbumper link lovin
and flossing?
dude you are hardcore. Flossing is torture
My husband loves the early 90s music. I must admit that I have learned to love them as well. I can't stand flossing. I don't intend to include it in my resolutions coz I won't be able to do it. Wish you luck!
I prefer to keep my floss south of the border and I ain't talking Mexico.
Would you hate me if I said I DO floss every day? Every. Damn. Day. I'm not obsessive, though.
No, not at all.
Don't forget me on your rolls. Um, blog roll, that is.
