what nerve

How dare she does something like this to her mommy.

How dare she grows up so fast that her mommy doesn't even have a chance to say goodbye to those disappearing baby days.

Where does she get the nerve to she say to me "Mom, I'm not a baby anymore" all while barely grasping the rail of the escalator up to the bus terminal. How dare she make that announcement without my prior knowledge.

How dare she announce "I'm a girl now mommy, not a baby" with such pride and sense of accomplishment. Because mommy just isn't ready for this right now.

I'm not ready at all to let go of that baby one bit.

Dammit - I don't have a choice, do I?

All I can do is respond with a very wistful "You're right Gigi, you're not a baby anymore" and hope she doesn't see the leaks in my eyeballs.

Damn leaky eyeballs. They give me away every single time. How is someone supposed to be a tough motherbumper, when they are thrown greeting card sentiment filled love bombs at every turn? Oh well, it's what I signed up for.

Friendly reminder: Today is the last day to enter my Build-A-Bear draw for a $25 dollar gift card - draw will be happening tonight so hop to it.

And who said they could call us "Mom." That's "MOMMY" to you, kid!

You have no say in the matter at all, I'm afraid. All you can do it keep having more babies, but that is just a temporary fix, as my articulate, sassy, 28 month old "baby" is showing me every day.

The realization isn't a one-time thing... you keep forgetting, then realizing it all over again.

And I have a feeling this is only the beginning.

You know what's worse? Having a second baby and then looking at your first baby and noticing how damn BIG she looks in comparison.

It's enough to make you reach for the Visine, I say.

It's true, they will turn you to mush one day or another, one way or another. And SF Dad is right - it keeps hitting you blindsided.

I love her hat. Very big girl stylin'.

My just turned 3-year-old totally scorns the term of affection "baby" now. She'll say, "I am NOT a baby! I am a guuurrll."

Where she gets her accent I have no idea. It is definitely not Southern!

You need to get her some playdates with older kids. It's the only way I can shrink Rosey back down to size in my mind....

The Boy said the same thing when I called him "baby" out of affection. (Well, actually, he said he was a boy, NOT a girl..). Sigh.

Freakin kids... They keep on growing, no matter how much food I withhold or bricks I put on their heads.

She certainly is a lovely little girl, though. :)

Every dang morning when my boys come downstairs, I'm stunned. All lanky arms and gangly movements. It's killing me.

The nerve, indeed

Oh, do I know what you mean! You want to just freeze them in time (around 2 1/2 year for me). I remember telling both my daughters, "Just stop right here. Don't grow any more!" They always got a kick out of that, but I was serious!

The transition from babyhood to toddlerhood to little girl/boy-hood is even more painful when it is your last child.

Sigh.

Wow, she does look very grown up in that second shot, doesn't she? Awesome hat.

Julia calls me Mom now. I tell her she can't call me Mom until she's married with children.

Oliver and I sat out on the sun porch yesterday (with sweatshirts on, I might add) and ate a snack and we had such fun...I was marveling at how cute he is and how BIG he is...I'd blog about it, but it seems like all I ever blog about anymore is MY KIDS ARE GETTING BIGGER AND BIGGER EACH DAY, SOB, WAAAAH, SOB!
