A Trip To The Zoo & Cranium Goo

Last week I volunteered to be a responsible parent on my daughter's kindergarten class trip to the zoo.

Yeah. I don't know what I was thinking either.

In fact, it didn't really sink in until a few minutes before leaving to catch the big yellow limo to certain insanity.

Proof:

And truth be told -- and boy oh boy I love the truth -- most of the time I don't know what I am thinking. Not that I'm blank in the head. In fact my head is chock full of amazing illuminations (some illegal in Tennessee) and I often struggle to turn my mind off just so I can concentrate on the here and now.

Which I know doesn't make much sense to those who don't find that statement familiar but there is something to be said about mind noise and instincts. While instincts alone cannot guarantee survival or success, it is a huge chunk of what keeps me going day to day. Some days more than others. Sometimes it's just mind noise and the instinct is no where to be found. It's just a lot of loud noise and those days aren't so easy.

Come closer, I have poo to throw at you.
*sigh* I know this isn't making that much sense except to those who also have the noise in their head.

I was trying to focus on the leaves but the damn tiger kept getting in my way
Would it be inaccurate when I claim that I really have no clue what I'm doing in this parenthood gig? Not really. That said, I'm not doing a horrible job -- she's proof of that. She's an awesome human being though trying to quantify how much of that I'm responsible for is difficult.

Smiling turtle knows your secrets
She's headstrong. She's smart. She's daring. She's never killed a hobo (or at least hasn't been caught). And on top of all that awesomeness, she's also very talented and omfg, she's always singing. She marches to her own drummer but is simultaneously obsessed with people understanding that she is a GIRL not a stinky boy (her words.) Apparently this can only be achieved by adding a princess touch to each and every aspect of her life. There are days I want to gouge my eyes out with a blunt instrument over this entire pink princess business but when I see her practising ninja kicks while wearing a tiara, I put the butter knife down.

And sometimes I just think the pink princess business is the noise in her head. Way to pass the torch momma.

For those wondering how the zoo trip panned out: we came back with the same number of kids we had in the morning. Now I can't claim these were all the SAME kids we went in with but hey, stop being so damn detail oriented.

I love being a field trip mom...the kids are a trip and I earn cool mom street cred. LOL. That being said, when I went on BubTar's a couple weeks ago, one of the girls in group had a boyfriend and I had to keep telling them to stop holding hands and putting their arms around each other on the bus. They are second graders! I didn't expect to actually be chaperoning! LOL.

Of course she is awesome...those instincts of yours are none too shabby.

You are all sorts of brave. We were there on Saturday, and the parent/child ratio was 1:1 and I could barely keep mine from jumping into the rhino pit. And we too thought the bearded makak or whatever that monkey was called, was seriously grumpy.

Sounds like you had a good time at the Zoo, regardless of the kids that were there.

I volunteered to go with my daughter's preschool class (what i thought was just a class) to see a Curious George show. It ended up being the entire preschool going. 150 kids. talk about a nightmare.

Oh, I so know the noise in the head! I tried explaining it to my husband, especially in reference to not being able to sleep at night, and he had NO IDEA what I was talking about. Apparently, some people can turn it all off. Who knew?

Field trips make me utterly and ridiculously exhausted. And yet I still do them.
