yup - it's another motherbumper PSA

FIRST PSA:
It's that wonderful time of year again! I love today because IT'S DELURKING DAY!

That means I get to come to your house and egg it if you don't leave a comment on my blog

And I know where you hide people, oh yes I do (not really but I'm fresh outta jokes today).

Please say something, even - yes EVEN - if it is to say "you suck" because I've got this carton of eggs that didn't survive yesterday's power outage and I'm itching to use them.

SECOND PSA:
My hatred of HellMart (as I like to call it) is huge BUT I can't say that I never shop there. But help me by never shopping there again.

Hey - you in the back! Yes you, the one yelling "HYPOCRITE!".

I am fully aware of my hypocritical ways and because of those transgressions my head hangs low sometimes but you know what they say about bloggers who live in glass houses, don't you? Oh you don't? Ummm... well neither do I but I bet it's witty. So stuff it (as nicely as possible because I'm still happy that you are here reading).

BTW if you look up hypocrite in the dictionary you see this:
But back to the corporation that sucks the lifeblood out of every town it invades.

SB flat out refuses to shop there (which I find sexy) but when we are visiting our family on the farm, the Walpit of Hell is the place to go for diapers. HellMart is in the process of eating up that township, just like it's eating it way across other communities in North America.

And like some other corporations, it has all the same rights as you and me but unlike you and me, if it say - kills something, the corporation can't be held responsible. But that's not what I'm here to talk about - well actually it is sorta: I'm talking about how the largest ring of Hell known as Walmart is putting our children in danger.

So let me just get to the point. See this logo?:
The tagline slays me. Save Money? Well yes, the items are undercutting any possible competition but it also induces shopper to buy more crap so in the long run, not that much money is actually saved by the precious consumer.

And Live Better? Well The League of Maternal Justice has put it best when talking about the Death Bibs. Yes you read that right: DEATH BIBS. If you have purchased any bibs or baby items from Big Blue Hell you will want to read this article.

It makes my blood boil which isn't as heart warming as it sounds.

So leave me a comment and read what The League has to say. And I promise I won't egg your house (today).

Dirty Hellmart is coming to my town...we try really hard not to ever shop there, but when you're flat out broke and need something bad, it's the cheapest place. Heading over to the league now...

Meh, who cares if you egg my house? It's ugly and needs a paint job anyhow...

But yeah, I am totally anti-Walmart. i actually won't shop there, which is also easy for me to say because I don't drive, but still. even if I did. Eech.

AGH! Death bibs. What's next?

Have you heard about the shoe thing? Just in case, here is a link.

Walmart SUCKS! I am a Target lover, myself!

Mouse said...

I only very rarely darken the doors of WalMart. And feel guilty when I do. But now that I'm back in the land of Target (please don't egg my house), it's much easier for me to say never again. (Which has been my goal for a while.)

(And what should I make of the fact that word verification ends with "v-ja-j"?)

Chicky Chicky Baby said...

I make myself feel better by shopping at Target but it's really not any better. Just prettier.

SciFi Dad said...

I am here, and speaking in complete, grammatically correct sentences, no less.

Here's the thing with Walmart: up here we have alternatives such as Zellers which, while not quite as inexpensive, are still economical. But why is Zellers (or their parent, HBC) a better alternative? Sure, WM business practices suck, and they are shitty employers, but are the alternatives any better?

In theory it would be nice to buy all our stuff hand made and organic from local producers, but is it realistic?

Julie Marsh said...

Hey, if you come egg my house, bring the fam and make it a vacation. You and I can go egg Wal-Mart together at 3am.

motherbumper said...

SciFi- Dude, don't get me started on the organic fashion of late - that is worthy of it's own post. And if we did all consider buying local or hand-made over the big box - well the reality would be beautiful. And now the hippy side of me is going to take a nap.

I hate Hellmart with the fire of 1,000 sons!

Don't they say Bloggers who live in glass houses shouldn't blog naked?

Zellers will match WalMart's advertised specials if you bring in their flyer.

My husband won't shop there, but I do occasionally when money is tight. It sucks, but when they're the lowest price in town, and you have less money due to everything costing more right now, it's a necessary evil.

And I hate going there because the store is always dirty. Many of the people who shop there are walking, talking blog fodder, too.

I look forward to the day when I'll never have to shop there again. Sorta a modern day Scarlett O'Hara - "As God as my witness, I'll never so poor I have to shop Wal-Mart again!"

Don't really qualify as a lurker but know the county of which you speak (family in fowlers corners, believe it or not) and totally agree. I've never bought anything from Wallyworld, and barring some emergency, I won't.

jennie said...

we just returned from that store (because its the only place in our town that has something we needed to pick up TODAY) and I really just hate going there.

Anonymous said...

Ugh! You're the second blogger today that has called me out for lurking. I feel so ashamed, especially since you commented on my blog. Well now I'm de-lurked.

As for the Walmart thing... I think it is appalling that they would continue to sell those bibs. However, (and please don't yell at me when I say this) our Walmart here in my anonymous town of Georgia isn't that bad. They're cheap and although I love Target Walmart usually has a bigger selection. Also the employees at our Walmart are so nice and there is one woman who has worked there for as long as
I can remember who always speaks to my kids. Big corporations in general usually suck and all they care about is the bottom line but there are always exceptions.

Jess said...

Not a delurker, but I swell the numbers nicely....

Anonymous said...

Am I a lurker if this is my first time here? I guess not if I post a comment.

You Suck!

OK, I'm just kidding, I don't even know you.

motherbumper said...

You are all safe (even you Vanilla).

Tania said...

I'm not delurking, but everyone loves a free comment, so please add this to your collection.

I never shop at Walmart, and that's out of principal. I think I took my initial cue from South Park.

motherbumper said...

Is there anything we can't learn from South Park? Anything?

I thought not.

Heather said...

I think I have commented occasionally, but just for the sake of delurking day I'll comment again.

I hate shopping at Hell-Mart but occasionally have to go there as well.

Anonymous said...

Hellmart.

Damn, I could have used that for my post the other day.

I loathe that store. And all stores like it.

Whit said...

Scrambled please, with cheese.

Wal*Mart sucks eggs, you can give them the rest.

Hi Mother Bumper,

Since you really know where I live, I feel that have no choice but to leave a comment. I must join you on the Hell-Mart band wagon! I try to avoid it too (luckily the closest one to me is in a seedy area of town) Have you ever noticed that it is always full of obese-stirrup-pant-clad mothers screaming at their children. The prices at Zellers are about the same so whenever I need to shop for many things, I go there (plus it is Canadian).

Blog said...

Please don't egg my house! I hate Hellmart! Wish there was Target in Canada.... Sigh, a girl can dream!

Chris said...

Didn't want to get my house egged. Hate when that happens.

But you know I read every word.

Run ANC said...

I truly dislike WalMart, but I would be lying if I said I never shopped there. We have been going there of late to buy diapers (if you know how many diapers we're going through, you'd know why we have to look for the cheapest option). I try to go in for diapers and nothing else, though. Sadly, I often buy mini M&Ms too. They're M&Ms! They're mini! What's not to love?

I will have to rethink this after reading that article, though. I wish - really wish - we had Target over here.

MamaMo said...

man... talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time - I just snuck (sp?) over from land o' Bossy for the first time, and I turn the corner and BLAM! I get hit with a "lurker" label. But now, having commented, I'm not a lurker - making my entire comment meaningless... and now my head hurts from logic overload.
Funny blog, though.

mamatulip said...

I admit, I used to shop at Wal Mart a lot. A LOT. And while I still do shop there, I have found myself wanting to shop at Canadian-based stores more. So I do, and it makes me feel a bit better.

I don't need to delurk. You know I love you and your blog and your swearing and your affinity for Guitar Hero.

Nora said...

hello! Love your take on the WM logo :-)

Janet said...

Walmart is the devil.

I'm not a lurker. I just like to hear the sound of my own voice, er, comment. You know what I mean.

I don't shop there. Ever.

11111111 said...

In fact, I did all my xmas shopping on Roncesvalles Ave. (my hood)--no big-box stores, no chains.

Debbie said...

have I told you lately how adorable you are, multiplied by how adorable Bumper is, which = bleeding eyes?

it sounds unpleasant, but really, it isn't. it's my favorite reason to bleed from the eyes.

favorite.

VICTORIA said...

I agree, but I will admit, we do occassionally shop there. Not one in my town, but 1/2 hour away!

M said...

I'm also one with the delurking. I even started a new blog so I can comment on all the awesomeness that is, mommy blogger toronto. You chicas rock!

That's an interesting take on Wall Mart, sorry HellMart! Good points.

Thanks for stopping by my site. Have a nice day.
